“Create to Grow”

I have never shared this on my social media before, but for more than ten years I have volunteered in different projects that support children and teenagers through art as a way to encourage personal growth and emotional development.

 

I haven’t always been consistent because a large part of my focus has also been dedicated to growing my artistic career, and many times my time has been limited. In my life, as in the lives of many creatives, there have been changes and periods of growth that have required my full effort and attention. Even so, I consider myself an artist who, whenever invited to participate in or support art programs for children and young people, has always tried to make it possible.

 

It fulfills me, I love it, and it helps me grow.

 

I have always loved this kind of work, especially since my years as a preschool teacher. For me, the greatest area of study has always been emotional growth and development, of course alongside cognitive development, but through my experience over the years I have realized that one of the most important foundations in life is expanding as a person, having values, and becoming a good human being.

 

With other people.

With your family.

With animals.

With nature.

 

There is so much we could contribute if we grew more from that place.

 

I decided to share this now because I am going to resume this work through scholarships and support programs for children so they can have greater access to painting and self-expression, but also so they can experience moments of peace, harmony, and fulfillment through art.

 

Spaces where creating also means breathing.

 

Recently, I was involved in an event benefiting students from Tijuana through the organization Advancing Students Forward (ASF).

 

Funds were raised to continue supporting students’ education through a program that I deeply admire because it not only focuses on helping them academically, but also encourages them to continue pursuing their dreams, believe in themselves, and build a positive future for their lives.

 

The founder, Monica Santos, hosts monthly gatherings where students participate in activities and conversations designed to open their minds to new possibilities and remind them that they can overcome difficult economic circumstances.

 

I taught art classes with ASF for a couple of years, and honestly it brought me so much joy because it was a space where I met students who were excited to learn, express themselves, and grow.

 

For me, those were moments of true fulfillment and happiness.

 

I will be resuming temporary projects in schools and community groups where I can offer my time to create art alongside children and teenagers.

 

After each “residency,” we will hold exhibitions featuring the artwork created by the children, and I truly believe it will be very special for them to see their own results and everything they are capable of expressing through art.

 

Soon, I will begin a residency at a school that opened its doors to this project, where I will be working for two months. I’ll be sharing part of this journey through MARALOVE Creative Residency.

 

I love seeing how Mariel continues to grow through MARALOVE, and I feel deeply proud of all the paths this project has taken me on.

 

But above all… this is my favorite project of all.

“Crear para Crecer”

Nunca he compartido esto en mis redes sociales, pero desde hace más de diez años he sido voluntaria en diferentes proyectos de ayuda a niños y adolescentes para promover el desarrollo personal a través del arte.

 

No he sido constante porque también gran parte de mi enfoque ha estado en crecer mi lado artístico, por lo que mi tiempo muchas veces ha sido limitado. En mi vida, como en la de muchos creativos, han habido cambios y procesos de crecimiento que han requerido de mi total esfuerzo. Aun así, me considero una artista que, siempre que ha sido invitada a participar y apoyar programas de arte para beneficio de niños y jóvenes, ha buscado hacerlo posible.

 

Me llena, me encanta y me hace crecer.

 

Siempre me ha gustado mucho este tipo de trabajo, sobre todo desde que fui maestra de preescolar. Para mí, el mayor estudio siempre ha sido el crecimiento y desarrollo emocional, claro de la mano del desarrollo cognitivo, pero viendo mi experiencia a través de los años me he dado cuenta de que como base primordial está el expandirte como persona, tener valores y convertirte en una persona de bien.

 

Con otras personas.

Con tu familia.

Con los animales.

Con la naturaleza.

 

Es inmenso todo lo que podríamos aportar si crecieramos más desde ahí.

 

Decidí compartirlo ahorita porque voy a retomar este servicio por medio de becas y apoyo hacia niños para que puedan tener más acceso a pintar y expresarse, pero también para que tengan momentos de paz, armonía y satisfacción a través del arte.

 

Recientemente estuve involucrada en un evento en beneficio a estudiantes de Tijuana por medio de la organización Advancing Students Forward (ASF).

 

En el evento se recaudaron fondos para poder seguir sustentando los estudios de los estudiantes con un programa que me encanta porque no solamente busca ayudarlos académicamente, sino también alentarlos a seguir sus sueños, creer en ellos mismos y construir un progreso positivo en su vida.

 

La fundadora, Monica Santos, realiza reuniones mensuales donde hacen dinámicas y actividades que tienen como propósito abrir la mente de los estudiantes a nuevas posibilidades y recordarles que sí pueden superarse a pesar de circunstancias económicas.

 

Participé dando clases de arte un par de años con ASF y la verdad es que era un espacio que me llenaba muchísimo de alegría, porque me encontraba con estudiantes ilusionados por aprender, expresarse y desarrollarse.

 

Para mí fueron momentos de mucha plenitud y felicidad.

 

Voy a retomar proyectos que serán temporales en escuelas y grupos donde pueda aportar mi tiempo para crear arte junto a niños y adolescentes.

 

Después de cada “residencia” realizaremos exposiciones con las obras elaboradas por los niños y estoy segura de que será muy especial que vean sus resultados y todo lo que pueden expresar a través del arte.

 

Próximamente comenzaré una residencia en una escuela que abrió las puertas a este proyecto y estaré ahí durante dos meses. Les voy a compartir parte de este proceso en MARALOVE Creative Residency.

 

Me encanta ver cómo Mariel sigue creciendo a través de MARALOVE y me siento profundamente orgullosa de todos los caminos a los que este proyecto me ha llevado.

 

Pero sobre todo… este, es mi proyecto favorito.
