“ How Collaboration Transforms the Creative Process”

There’s something deeply intimate about creating alone —the stillness, the freedom, that unfiltered inspiration flowing between emotion and execution. For years, especially during my childhood, my art lived in that silent space. But when I began opening my process to other eyes —photographers, stylists, creators, muses— everything changed.

And when I say everything, I mean everything.

Over the years, I’ve noticed how much I’ve changed —both as a person and as an artist. Today, I’d like to share a glimpse of that transformation from my perspective.

When Two Visions Meet

The first time I collaborated with a photographer was in 2015, with Christian Pleco, to capture my art and fashion pieces. They were the launch photos of my work as an independent artist under the name MARALOVE. That’s when I first understood the power of releasing total control. I brought my muse Ileana, my paintings, the concept, the clothes, the intention —but what Christian contributed was just as valuable: his lens, his rhythm, his interpretation.

Photoshoots as Living Dialogues

Each photoshoot became a conversation. That’s exactly what happened with Carlos Castelo Chucuan. His photography has a deeply inspirational vision —deeply connected to nature, full of intention, and rich with emotional expression through the body. Carlos works with a level of sensuality that, at the time, didn’t align with what I was exploring in my own work. But that’s exactly where the gift of that collaboration lived: he helped me break out of a state where my perception had become completely fixed. I learned that opening myself to other sensibilities didn’t mean losing my voice —it meant expanding it. I began to appreciate photography from a new angle and with new meaning. I admired and respected him deeply. Without saying a word, Carlos also understood that within his style, my essence had to be present —and we both adjusted to one another. We created an incredible team, had so much fun, and it became a moment I look back on with joy and unforgettable images.

When I started working with Jackie Gallardo, I stepped into a collaboration that continues to teach me and inspire me to this day. It felt like diving into an entirely new world —not just through her editorial photography style, but also through her editing: her use of color, the elegance she brings to each image, the lights and shadows, the glances and poses she captures. Everything about her work is transformative. She takes you to another dimension. Her taste and her inspiration elevate me creatively in unexpected ways. In those moments, my role also shifted. I was no longer just the artist —I became a co-creator. And through her lens (literally), I saw my pieces differently. Textures I hadn’t noticed came to the forefront. Emotions I didn’t know I had painted began to surface. Her eye reframed my own work.

Working with Chris Aragón was a very dynamic experience. Chris has a unique eye for movement, which he captures with remarkable sensitivity, conveying emotion and creativity in every shot. He plays with spontaneous moments as they unfold, and at the same time, transforms them into images with an almost still quality — something I truly love.

With some photographers, we planned every detail —color palettes, locations, moodboards. With others, spontaneity took the lead, and the process became more about trust than control. That’s exactly what happens with Yaz Reve —there’s always that element of mystery, because “once we’re together,” we begin discovering and decoding everything in real time. I love it because we blend styles and ideas. Yaz brings out the parts of me —especially the introverted ones— that usually stay quiet. She pushes me, in a gentle and honest way, to visit corners of Mara and Mariel that I rarely explore. Sometimes she even leads me into “uncomfortable” situations —haha— but in the best possible way. Moments that help me grow and fill my heart with peace once they’re lived.

Every collaboration left a mark on me. Some pushed me toward bolder choices. Others reminded me of the elegance of restraint. But all of them taught me the same truth: art is never static —it evolves when you allow others to touch it.

Styling as Storytelling

Working alongside stylists or muses added another layer —not just to my career, but to who I am. My paintings are never just paintings —they are gestures, memories, moods. And something I gave a very specific meaning to could take on a completely different one when filtered through another creative’s sensitivity. That sensitivity is something I deeply admire and value in every person I collaborate with.

Letting Go to See More Clearly

At its core, collaboration requires surrender. Not the abandonment of your voice —but a willingness to let your vision breathe, stretch, and transform. When you work with others, the final result is never exactly what you envisioned. But that’s where the beauty lies: it becomes something greater than what you could have created alone.

A New Chapter of MARALOVE

Through these collaborations, I’ve not only deepened my creative process —I’ve found community. A shared language of intuition, emotion, and artistry. Whether through intimate studio sessions or large-scale editorial productions, each person I’ve worked with has helped me refine and expand what MARALOVE stands for: beauty, soul, connection.

If you’ve ever felt afraid to collaborate, I understand. Letting someone into your creative world can feel incredibly vulnerable. But on the other side of that risk, there’s magic —the kind of magic that only happens when you stop creating alone and start creating together.

Hay algo profundamente íntimo en crear en soledad —la quietud, la libertad, esa inspiración sin filtros entre emoción y ejecución. Durante años, en mi infancia, mi arte habitó ese espacio silencioso. Pero cuando comencé a abrir mi proceso a otros ojos —fotógrafos, estilistas, creadores, musas— todo cambió.

Y cuando digo todo, es todo.

Con el paso de los años, me he dado cuenta del cambio que ha surgido en mí como persona y como artista. Hoy me gustaría compartirles un poco sobre esa transformación desde mi percepción.

Cuando Dos Visiones se Encuentran

La primera vez que colaboré con un fotógrafo fue en 2015, con Christian Pleco, para capturar mis piezas de arte y moda. Eran las fotografías de lanzamiento de mi trabajo como artista independiente bajo el nombre de MARALOVE. Ahí comprendí el poder de soltar el control total. Yo aportaba a mi musa Ileana, mis pinturas, el concepto, la ropa, la intención —pero lo que Christian aportaba era igual de valioso: su lente, su ritmo, su interpretación.

Las Sesiones como Diálogos Vivos

Cada sesión de fotos se volvía una conversación. Así me ocurrió con Carlos Castelo Chucuan. Él tiene una visión muy inspiradora en su fotografía: profundamente conectada con la naturaleza, cargada de intención y con una gran fuerza emocional a través del cuerpo. Carlos trabaja con un grado de sensualidad que, hasta ese momento, no coincidía con lo que yo exploraba en mi propio trabajo. Pero justo ahí estuvo el regalo de esa colaboración: me ayudó a salir de un estado en el que mi percepción estaba completamente obstinada. Comprendí que abrirme a otras sensibilidades no significaba perder mi voz, sino expandirla. Aprendí a apreciar la fotografía desde otro ángulo y con otro sentido. Lo admiré y respeté mucho. Sin decirnos nada, Carlos también supo que dentro de su estilo, el mío debía estar presente, y habría que ajustarnos. Creamos un equipo increíble, la pasamos genial, y fue un momento del cual conservo un gran recuerdo y fotografías inolvidables.

Cuando comencé a trabajar con Jackie Gallardo, descubrí una colaboración que aún hoy me sigue enseñando y que mantengo muy presente. Fue como una exploración hacia un mundo nuevo, no solo por su estilo de fotografía editorial, sino por la forma en la que edita: el color, la elegancia que aporta a cada imagen, las luces, las sombras, las miradas y poses que captura. Todo en ella es transformador. Te lleva a otra dimensión. Su gusto, su inspiración, me elevan creativamente a lugares inesperados. En esos momentos, mi rol también se transformaba. Ya no era solo la artista —me convertía en co-creadora. Y a través de su lente (literalmente), veía mis piezas de forma distinta. Texturas que no había notado se convertían en protagonistas. Emociones que no sabía que había pintado, emergían. Su ojo reencuadraba mi propia obra.

Trabajar con Chris Aragón fue una experiencia muy dinámica. Chris tiene un gusto especial por el movimiento, que logra capturar con una sensibilidad única, transmitiendo emoción y creatividad en cada toma. Juega con los momentos espontáneos que se viven en el presente, y al mismo tiempo, los transforma en imágenes con una cualidad casi still, que me encanta.

Con algunos fotógrafos, planeábamos cada detalle —paletas de color, ubicación, moodboards. Con otros, la espontaneidad lideraba, y el proceso se volvía más sobre confianza que sobre control. Así me pasa con Yaz Reve: siempre existe esa parte de incertidumbre, porque “ya estando juntas” vamos descubriendo y descifrando todo. Me encanta porque combinamos estilos e ideas. Yaz logra que todo mi lado introvertido se exprese y salga a relucir. Me empuja, de alguna manera, a visitar rincones no solo de Mara, sino de Mariel, rincones que no suelo habitar frecuentemente. Y a veces me lleva a situaciones “incómodas” —jajaja— pero positivas. Situaciones que me hacen crecer y me llenan el corazón de paz una vez que las vivo.

Cada colaboración dejó una huella en mí. Algunas me impulsaron hacia elecciones más atrevidas. Otras me recordaron la elegancia de lo sutil. Pero todas me enseñaron que el arte no es estático —evoluciona cuando permites que otros lo toquen.

El Estilismo como Narración

Trabajar junto a estilistas o musas añadió otra dimensión, tanto en mi carrera como en mi forma de ser. Mis pinturas nunca son solo pinturas —son gestos, recuerdos, estados de ánimo. Y aquello a lo que yo le daba un significado muy claro, podía adquirir un sentido completamente distinto al pasar por la sensibilidad de otro creativo durante una colaboración. Esa sensibilidad es muy valorada y admirada de mi parte hacia con quien colaboro.

Soltar para Ver Más Claro

En el fondo, colaborar implica rendirse. No se trata de abandonar tu voz, sino de permitir que tu visión respire, se estire, se transforme. Cuando trabajas con otros, el resultado final nunca es exactamente lo que habías imaginado. Pero ahí está la belleza: se convierte en algo más grande de lo que podrías haber creado sola.

Un Nuevo Capítulo de MARALOVE

Gracias a estas colaboraciones, no solo profundicé mi proceso creativo —encontré comunidad. Un lenguaje compartido de intuición, emoción y arte. Ya sea en sesiones íntimas de estudio o producciones editoriales más grandes, cada persona con la que he trabajado me ha ayudado a refinar y expandir lo que MARALOVE representa: belleza, alma, conexión.

Si alguna vez has tenido miedo de colaborar, te entiendo. Dejar que alguien entre a tu mundo creativo puede sentirse vulnerable. Pero al otro lado de ese riesgo está la magia —la clase de magia que solo ocurre cuando dejas de crear en soledad y empiezas a crear en conjunto.
